Today is the centenary of the birth of Christina Foyle (1911-1999), one of Britain's best-known booksellers whose shop - Foyle's on London's Charing Cross Road - has delighted and confounded in equal measure. Foyle was also the doyenne of the literary luncheon, of which you can read more in her biography from the Oxford DNB.
