James Joyce, 1941

January 13, 2011

Today is the 70th anniversary of the death of James Joyce (1882-1941), a writer who left quite an impression on the OED. The OED Online includes 103 (often wonderful) entries for which Joyce is the first source: from peloothered (Dubliners) to roocoocoo and smilesmirk (Ulysses). Using the OED's Browse/Search option, you can see the full list of entries (requires subscriber access). And to mark the anniversary you may also be interested in the life of Joyce, as told in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
