Words of the year

It's that time of year when journalists start to compile lists of “words of the year”. The New Statesman has already published a list of buzzwords for 2010 including “vuvuzela”, “refudiate”, and “Cleggmania” [From bigoted to vuvuzela: this year's buzzwords, by Sophie Elmhirst, 20 December 2010]. But will any of them ever make it into the Oxford English Dictionary? The OED's definition of buzzword: “a catchword or expression currently fashionable; a term used more to impress than to inform” suggests that we'll have to wait and see if they stick around…
