Nobel laureates

Today marks the start of the 2010 Nobel prize ceremony to honour this year’s laureates. The awards are named after the Swedish scientist and inventor Alfred Nobel (1833-1896). In addition to Nobel, the OED includes numerous words derived from surnames, including volt, bowdlerize, and dahlia.
