Tour: Shaping the Dictionary
Context display
To see where in the Dictionary sequence a particular entry comes, and what other entries are around it, you may choose to view the entry in context. Continuing with the entry for cushion, there are two buttons at the bottom of the entry marked List by Entry and List by Date.
The first button - List by Entry - displays a list of those entries in the Dictionary that fall immediately before and after the current one in alphabetical order. This is just like the order of entries in a normal printed dictionary, and appears as a list to the left of the entry, with the current entry highlighted: ![]() [shrink] Note that the List by Entry button is now red, showing that this version of the list is currently being displayed.
It is also possible to display the list ordered according to the dates of the earliest quotations the entries contain, so that you can see the position of the word you are looking at in relation to other words which entered the language at the same time. ![]() [shrink]
