Interesting antedatings

Revision of the entries in the June 2006 OED Online update has revealed an earlier origin than previously known for many words, including:

• pimpish (adjective, antedated from 1935 to 1877)
• pimpship (noun, from 1682 to 1621)
• pit bull (noun, from 1974 to 1927)
• placard (verb, from 1813 to a1713)
• placatingly (adverb, from 1919 to 1875)
• placeable (adjective, from 1802–12 to ?1550)
• pleacher (noun, from 1882 to 1670)
• pleasurous (adjective, from 1839 to 1595)
